Xiaoyuan Huang

Xiaoyuan Huang, 23, began to play the piano at age four and has never stopped.  Born in China, she was recruited to study piano performance at the Middle School affiliated with Si Chuan Conservatory of Music, where she gained considerable knowledge and understanding of music and performance.  At Duquesne University she studied under Professor David Allen Wehr and won the piano department’s performance award every year.  Xiaoyuan is one of three performers selected from the Pittsburgh area to play in the master class conducted by world famous pianist, Lang Lang.  She is one of the winners of the Concerto Competition in Mary Pappert School of Music and is the 2009 winner of the Steinway Socity Piano Competition of Western Pennsylvania.  Currently, she is studying at the University of Miami for her Master’s Degree in Music.

Audrey Whartenby

Audrey Whartenby, 16, has studied flute for six years, currently with the PSO’s Rhian Kenny.  Former teachers include Pamela Romeo and Andrei Pidkivka.  She also plays piccolo, cello, and piano.  Audrey is a member of the Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestra and their wind quintet.  She has been a master class performer at the Bernard Z. Goldberg Flute Seminar, soloist at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School, soloist and scholarship recipient at the West Virginia University Summer Flute Program, and side-by-side player with the Beaver Valley Philharmonic and with the McKeesport Symphony.  She has performed with the Pittsburgh Flute Club at their annual recital, and also performed with the Pittsburgh Flute Club Choir and CMU’s Alberto Almarza at the National Flute Association Convention in New York City.  Audrey has participated in the Beaver County Honors Band and twice in the PMEA District V Honors Band at Westminster College.  She represented Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School at PMEA District-Regional-and All-State Orchestra last year, and plans to do the same this year representing Mars Area Senior High School.
