The McKeesport Symphony Society is proud to announce that its newest venture, the Mon Valley Youth Orchestra, is returning for its second season, with Kevin King as Music Director.  The McKeesport Symphony has long been a supporter of youth music programs, including its Young Artists competition and the Side-by-Side concert.  These events are held annually, offering talented young musicians in the area an opportunity to perform with professionals.

Auditions will be held Monday, September 24, 2007, at the First Evangelical Free Church in McKeesport from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.  For directions, click link at left.)

If you are aged 11 or older (grade 5 or above) and want to audition, you should prepare one (1) unaccompanied solo piece of your choice, not exceeding 5 minutes in length.  Orchestra rehearsals will be held weekly beginning Monday, October 1, 2007, from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.

Instruments
Any student playing a stringed instrument, woodwind, brass, percussion and harp is encouraged to audition.

Auditions
Auditions for the Mon Valley Youth Orchestra will be held annually, at the beginning of the school year. Students aged 11 or older (grade 5 or above) may audition, but must have a letter from their school music teacher or private teacher for participation. Seating will be determined by audition only. Audition date for the 2007-08 season is Monday, September 24, 2007, from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. Audition appointments will be confirmed by mail. Students interested in auditioning should prepare one unaccompanied solo piece no more than five minutes in length. Auditions will be held at the First Evangelical Free Church in McKeesport.

Rehearsals and Performances
Rehearsals will be held weekly, with the first rehearsal on Monday, October 1, 2007, at the First Evangelical Free Church in McKeesport. Each rehearsal will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The Youth Orchestra season will run from October 1, 2007 through May 12,2008.  Included in our season are 3-4 coaching sectionals and five performances.  Inclement weather updates will be posted on the MSO home page.

Membership
Upon acceptance into the Mon Valley Youth Orchestra, each member agrees to comply with the rules and regulations specified below. Failure to comply with these guidelines will result in removal from the orchestra. Those interested in membership must complete an enrollment application and send it to the MSO office no later than Thursday, September 20, 2007.

1. Members are required to attend all rehearsals, concerts and special events sponsored by the Mon Valley Youth Orchestra and/or its parent group, the McKeesport Symphony Orchestra.

2. Orchestra members missing more than two excused rehearsals will not be permitted to play in upcoming concerts.

3. Orchestra members must be in their seats at least ten minutes prior to start time, ready to play. All orchestra members should have a pencil with them at rehearsals.

4. Orchestra members will receive assigned music at the first rehearsal. It is the responsibility of each member to prepare music accordingly, whether with a private teacher or music teacher at school.

5. Please bring a music stand to all rehearsals and performances, whether you use it or not.

6. All students are required to pay the orchestra fee of $300.00 per year. No fundraising or ticket sales are required for participation. Several methods of payment are as follows:

A. 1 payment $300.00 due October 15, 2007

B. 2 payments $150.00 each due October 8, 2007 and February 11, 2008

C. 4 payments $75.00 each due October 8, 2007, December 17, 2007, February 11, 2008 and March 10, 2008
